5th International Congress for Lay Carmelites 2012
Between the 17th and the 21st of September, at Sassone (Ciampino, Rome) the 5th International Congress for Lay Carmelites, organised by the General Commission and the permanent secretariat for Carmelite Laity, took place. Some 200 people attended, from all parts of the world, with a huge majority of lay people and a sprinkling of friars.
The theme of the Congress was “The Formation of Lay Carmelites for the Apostolate”. The participants were helped in their reflections by a number of friars and lay people who are involved in the formation of lay people. In addition to the formal talks, the participants also heard a number of accounts of personal experiences of apostolic work by lay people in the different countries, and in their group work they had an opportunity to reflect upon and to discuss the themes they had heard.
The intention of the Congress was to offer a missionary thrust, to raise awareness of formation for the apostolate and to instil in the hearts of the participants a new enthusiasm, in the hope that the individual, provincial, regional and local communities might act upon the recommendations that the Congress was able to propose.
Lay Carmelites can have a very effective role in the work of new evangelisation and be, not only a quantitative force in the Order, but also a qualitative one, in helping other members to grow through the charism, wherever God has chosen for them to be.

V Congreso Internacional del Laicado Carmelita 2012
Durante los días 17-21 de septiembre de 2012 se celebró en Sassone (Ciampino - Roma) el V Congreso Internacional del Laicado Carmelita, organizado por la Comisión General y por el Secretariado permanente para el Laicado Carmelita. En él participaron unas 200 personas de todo el mundo, en su mayor parte laicos y también algunos frailes.
El tema del Congreso fue “La formación de los laicos carmelitas para el apostolado”. Para reflexionar sobre este importante tema los participantes contaron con la ayuda de algunos laicos y frailes implicados en la formación de los laicos. Tuvieron ocasión de escuchar, además de las conferencias, algunas experiencias concretas de iniciativas apostólicas laicales realizadas en diversos países, sobre las que también tuvieron ocasión de reflexionar y debatir en las reuniones de los grupos.
El Congreso pretendía dar un empuje misionero, aumentar el interés por la formación para el apostolado y sembrar en el corazón de los participantes un renovado entusiasmo, con el deseo de que, después, cada comunidad provincial, regional y local lleve a la práctica la solicitud que el Congreso deseaba suscitar.
Los laicos carmelitas pueden trabajar muy eficazmente en el campo de la nueva evangelización, llegando a ser en la Orden no sólo una fuerza cuantitativa, sino sobre todo cualitativa, que ayude a los demás a crecer, a través del carisma carmelitano, en aquellos lugares en los que el Señor los ha situado y llamado.

V Congresso Internazionale del Laicato Carmelitano 2012
Nei giorni 17-21 settembre 2012 si è svolto a Sassone (Ciampino - Roma) il V Congresso internazionale del laicato carmelitano. Al Congresso, organizzato dalla Commissione Generale ed il Segretariato permanente per il laicato carmelitano, hanno preso parte circa 200 partecipanti da tutto il mondo, nella stragrande maggioranza laici ed alcuni frati.
Il tema del Congresso era “La formazione dei laici carmelitani all’apostolato”. I partecipanti sono stati aiutati a riflettere su questo tema importante da alcuni laici e frati, impegnati nella formazione dei laici. Oltre alle conferenze i partecipanti hanno potuto ascoltare alcune esperienze concrete di iniziative apostoliche laicali già esistenti in diversi paesi, e durante il lavoro in gruppo hanno avuto la possibilità di riflettere e discutere i temi ascoltati.
Il Congresso voleva dare uno slancio missionario, suscitare l’attenzione per la formazione all’apostolato e versare nei cuori dei partecipanti nuovo entusiasmo, auspicando che in seguito le singole comunità, provinciali, regionali, locali, mettano in pratica la sollecitazione che il Congresso ha desiderato suscitare.
I laici carmelitani possono lavorare assai efficacemente nel campo della nuova evangelizzazione e diventare non solo una forza quantitativa nell’Ordine, ma soprattutto qualitativa, che aiuta anche gli altri a crescere tramite il carisma del Carmelo, ovunque, là dove il Signore li ha posti e chiamati.
