The 84th Biannual Assembly of the USG
From the 26th to the 28th of November, just gone by, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., took part in the 84th Biannual Assembly of the Union of Superiors General (USG) in Rome, the theme of which was, “Towards new relationships for a culture of encounter”. On the first day, various speakers, both lay and religious, shared their experience of the extraordinary synod on the family and they evidenced the different challenges that became very clear in the synod. The second day was devoted to a study of the 1978 document, Mutuae Relationes, on the relationship between bishops and religious in the Church. This was with a view to a possible renewal or perhaps a re-writing of the document, as Pope Francis had suggested in the meeting he had with the General Superiors in 2013. The reflection on this was given by Mons. Gianfranco Gardin, OFMConv, Secretary of the CIVCSVA from 2006 to 2009 and current bishop of Treviso, and Robert P. Geisinger, SJ, Promoter for Justice of the CDF.
The third day was spent in working on a synthesis with which to continue the reflection on both of these topics, since there will be further work on both of them in the near future in different Church gatherings, including the ordinary general assembly of the Synod which will take place in October 2015 and for which the USG elected its ten representatives for presentation to the Holy Father, at this meeting.

84ª Asamblea semestral de la USG
Los pasados días 26 al 28 del noviembre, el Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., ha participado en la 84ª asamblea semestral de la Unión de Superiores Generales (USG) que ha tenido lugar en Roma y cuya reflexión ha girado en torno al tema: “Hacia nuevas relaciones para una cultura del encuentro”. El primer día, varios ponentes (tanto religiosos como laicos) compartieron su experiencia de la asamblea extraordinaria del Sínodo sobre la familia y pusieron de manifiesto los diversos retos que se habían hecho patentes en el mismo. El segundo día estuvo dedicado a repensar el documento de 1978 “Mutuae Relationes” (sobre relaciones entre obispos y religiosos en la Iglesia), en vistas a una posible revisión o incluso a una reelaboración del mismo, como ya había sugerido el Papa Francisco en el encuentro con los superiores generales que tuvo lugar en noviembre de 2013. Iluminaron esta reflexión Monseñor Gianfranco Gardin, OFMConv, (Secretario de la CIVCSVA de 2006 a 2009 y actual Obispo de Treviso) y el P. Robert Geisinger, SJ (Promotor de Justicia del CDF).
El tercer día estuvo dedicado a elaborar una síntesis para seguir reflexionando sobre los dos temas, puesto que sobre ambos se seguirá trabajando en un futuro próximo en diversas instancias eclesiales, incluida la asamblea general ordinaria del Sínodo que tendrá lugar en octubre de 2015 y para la que la USG eligió en estos días los diez representantes que serán propuestos al Santo Padre.

84ª Assemblea semestrale della USG
Dal 26 al 28 novembre, il Priore Generale P. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., ha partecipato a Roma alla 84ª assemblea semestrale della Unione dei Superiori Generali (USG) con il tema: “Verso le nuove relazioni per una cultura d’incontro”.
Il primo giorno, vari relatori religiosi e laici hanno condiviso la loro esperienza dell’assemblea straordinaria del Sinodo sulla famiglia e hanno evidenziato le diverse sfide che erano emerse in esso. Il secondo giorno è stato dedicato alla riflessione sul documento Mutuae Relationes del 1978, che tratta la relazione tra vescovi e religiosi nella Chiesa in vista di una possibile revisione o addirittura rielaborazione, come aveva suggerito Papa Francesco durante l’incontro con i superiori generali nel novembre 2013.
Hanno illuminato questa riflessione Mons. Gianfranco Gardin OFMConv, segretario della CIVCSVA dal 2006 al 2009 e attuale vescovo di Treviso, e P. Robert Geisinger, SJ, Promotore di Giustizia della CDF.
Nel terzo giorno si è elaborata una sintesi per continuare la riflessione su entrambi gli argomenti, perché su essi si lavorerà a vari livelli ecclesiastici nel futuro prossimo, inclusa l’assemblea generale ordinaria che si terrà nell'ottobre del 2015 e per la quale l’USG ha eletto durante questi giorni i dieci rappresentanti che saranno proposti al Santo Padre.
