A Letter from a number of General Curias regarding the situation in the D.R. Congo
The General Councillors for Africa of a number of orders and religious congregations who have members working in the D.R.Congo (Carmelite, Assumptionists, the Company of Mary, the Missionaries of Africa etc.) have written an urgent letter to the Commission for Justice and Peace of the USG and UISG, drawing their attention to the dramatic situation that has developed in some parts of the D.R.Congo, especially in the dioceses of Beni-Butembo, Bunia and Goma. In their letter (copied to the Secretary of State in the Vatican and to the various sections of the media) they denounce the massacres that are taking place in some parts and the silence and passivity being shown by the international authorities and the communications media. As well as that, they sent a message of solidarity and hope to the bishops, religious men and women, and lay people in those dioceses. The Carmelites have had a strong presence in those areas for many decades, where they are responsible for important pastoral and social commitments. Carta de diversas curias generales sobre la situación en el Congo
Los consejeros generales para África de diversas órdenes y congregaciones religiosas con presencia en el Congo (Carmelitas, Asuncionistas, Compañía de María, Misioneros de África, etc), han enviado con fecha 29 de marzo una carta urgente a la comisión de “Justicia y paz”, tanto de la USG como de la UISG, llamando la atención sobre la dramática situación que se vive en algunas zonas del Congo y, en especial, en las diócesis de Beni-Butembo, Bunia y Goma. En dicha carta (con copia a la Secretaría de Estado del Vaticano y a varios medios de comunicación) se denuncian las masacres que se están cometiendo en algunas zonas ante la pasividad y el silencio de las autoridades internacionales y de los medios de comunicación. Asimismo, se ha mandado un mensaje de solidaridad y de esperanza a los obispos, religiosos y religiosas y laicos de dichas diócesis. Los Carmelitas están muy presentes en esta zona desde hace varios decenios y llevan adelante una importante labor pastoral y social en la misma. Lettera di varie Curie Generalizie sulla situazione nel Congo
I Consilgieri Generali per l’Africa di vari Ordini e Congregazioni religiosi con presenza nel Congo (Carmelitani, Assunzionisti, Compagnia di Mari, Missionari di Africa, etc.) hanno mandato il 29 marzo una lettera urgente alla Commissione di Giustizia e Pace, sia della USG che della UISG, chiedendo attenzione sulla situazione drammatica, che si trova in alcune zone del Congo, particolarmente nelle diocesi di Beni-Butembo, Bunia e Goma. In quesat lettera, con copia alla Segreteria di Stato del Vaticano e a vari mezzi di comunicazione, si denuncia i massacri che succedono in alcune zone davanti alla passività e il silenzio delle autorità internazionali e dei mezzi di comunicazione. È stato mandato anche un messaggio di solidarietà e speranza ai vescovi, ai religiosi e le religiose e ai laici di queste diocesi. Per diversi dicenni i Carmelitani sono molto presenti in questa zona e stanno svolgendo un importante lavoro pastorale e sociale.
