Activities of the Prior General
On the 15th of January, 2017, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., led the solemn celebration of the Eucharist in the Parish of San Lorenzo in Seville (Spain) or the Hermandad de las Penas, (“the principal function of the institute”). He was accompanied by the Prior Provincial of the Bética Province, Fr. Francisco Daza, O.Carm. The Hermandad (Confraternity) that has a very close relationship with the Order, has special devotion to the image of the fallen Christ, that is to be found in the cloister of the ancient Carmelite house in that city.
From the 18th to the 22nd of January, ahead of the Chapter of the Province of Rio de Janeiro, [Citoc 4/2017], he and Fr. Raúl Maraví, O.Carm., Councillor General for the Americas visited the Prelature of Itaituba in the state of Pará in Brazil, where they were able to see the excellent work that Bishop Wilmar Santin, O.Carm., y Bro. Romualdo Azevedo, O.Carm., are doing with a number of rural, and hear about the projects that Bishop Santin has for the prelature over the next few years. They also visited two communities of Carmelite sisters that has recently come to the prelature, one belongs to the Carmelite Missionary Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus (SCMTBG) and the other, to the Carmelite Sisters of Divine Mercy (ICDP).
Following the Chapter of the Province of St. Thomas in India, [Citoc 10/2017], the Prior General, along with Fr. Benny Phang Kong Wing, O.Carm., Councillor General for Asia-Australia-Oceanía, visited the members of the General Delegation of St. Therese of Lisieux and St. Albert of Jerusalem, who were celebrating the 10th anniversary of the creation of that group. On this occasion a solemn Eucharist was celebrated at which the Prior General gave the Scapular to a number of young people from the recently formed Carmelite Youth movement. This was followed by a festival of culture where many different groups from the Carmelite Family took part.
From the 16th to the 20th of February, he took part in the 3rd Meeting of Carmelite Laity of Asia, which was held in Vung Tau (Vietnam) [Citoc 11/2017]. The Prior General spoke about how the spirit of family is a feature of the Carmelite Rule.
Over these last few months, the Prior General has visited a number of nuns’ monasteries, such as the monasteries of Cañete la Real (Málaga) and Sevilla in Spain, those of Guiguinto, Burgos and Tarlac in the Philippines. In the last of these he led the celebration of the Eucharist at which the Carmelites of the Most Holy Trinity were received into the Order and the first of their members made her solemn profession.

Actividades del Prior General
El pasado día 15 de enero, el Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., presidió en la Parroquia de San Lorenzo en Sevilla (España) la solemne eucaristía (“función principal del instituto”) de la Hermandad de las Penas. Fue acompañado por el Provincial de la Bética, P. Francisco Daza, O.Carm. Dicha Hermandad (que mantiene una estrecha relación con la Orden) venera una imagen de Jesús caído que se encontraba en el claustro del antiguo convento carmelita de la ciudad.
Del 18 al 22 de enero, antes del capítulo de la provincia fluminense [Citoc 4/2017], visitó junto al P. Raúl Maraví, O.Carm., Consejero General para las Américas, la Prelatura de Itaituba en el Estado de Pará en Brasil. Allí tuvieron ocasión de conocer la excelente labor que llevan a cabo Monseñor Wilmar Santin, O.Carm., y Fray Romualdo Azevedo, O.Carm., con algunas comunidades campesinas e indígenas, así como algunos de los proyectos de Monseñor Santin para la Prelatura en los próximos años. Asimismo, visitó las dos comunidades de religiosas carmelitas que se han incorporado recientemente a la Prelatura: las Hermanas Carmelitas Misioneras de Santa Teresa del Niño Jesús (SCMTBG) y las Hermanas Carmelitas de la Divina Providencia (ICDP).
Tras el Capítulo de la Provincia de Santo Tomás en India [Citoc 10/2017], el Prior General, acompañado por el P. Benny Phang Kong Wing, O.Carm., Consejero General para Asia-Australia-Oceanía, visitó a los hermanos de la Delegación General de Santa Teresa de Lisieux y San Alberto de Jerusalén que celebran 10 años de la creación de su grupo. Con este motivo tuvo lugar una solemne eucaristía (en la que Prior General impuso el escapulario a varios jóvenes de la recientemente creada “juventud carmelita”) y un festival cultural en el que participaron diversos grupos de la familia carmelita.
Los días 16 al 20 de febrero participó en el III Encuentro del Laicado Carmelita de Asia que tuvo lugar en Vung Tau (Vietnam) [Citoc 11/2017]. El Prior General disertó acerca de cómo el espíritu familiar está ya presente en nuestra Regla del Carmelo.
En estos meses el Prior General ha visitado los monasterios de Cañete la Real (Málaga) y Sevilla en España, y los de Guiguinto, Burgos y Tarlac en Filipinas. En este último presidió la solemne eucaristía en la que fueron acogidas en la Orden las “Carmelitas de la Santísima Trinidad” y en la que hizo su profesión solemne la primera de ellas.

Attività del Priore Generale
Il 15 gennaio scorso il Priore Generale, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., ha presieduto nella Parrocchia di San Lorenzo a Siviglia, in Spagna, la solenne Eucaristia per la festa principale della Confraternita dei Dolori (“Hermandad de las Penas”). È stato accompagnato dal Provinciale della Provincia Betica, P. Francisco Daza, O. Carm. Questa Confraternita, che mantiene una stretta relazione con l’Ordine, venera un’immagine di Gesù caduto che si trovava nel chiostro dell’antico convento carmelitano della città.
Dal 18 al 22 gennaio, dopo il Capitolo della Provincia di Rio (Citoc 4/2017), ha visitato insieme a P. Raúl Maraví, O.Carm., Consigliere Generale per le Americhe, la Prelatura di Itaituba nello stato di Pará in Brasile. Lì hanno avuto la possibilità di conoscere l'eccellente lavoro svolto da Mons. Wilmar Santin, O. Carm. e Fra Romualdo Azevedo, O. Carm. con le comunità rurali e indigene, così come alcuni dei progetti di Mons. Santin inerenti la Prelatura per i prossimi anni. Ha visitato anche le due comunità di suore carmelitane che recentemente hanno dato vita ad una presenza nella Prelatura: le Suore Carmelitane Missionarie di S. Teresa del Bambino Gesù (SCMTBG) e le Suore Carmelitane della Divina Provvidenza (ICDP).
Dopo il Capitolo della Provincia di San Tommaso in India (Citoc 10/2017), il Priore Generale, accompagnato da P. Benny Phang Kong Wing, O. Carm., Consigliere Generale per l'Asia, Australia e Oceania, ha visitato i fratelli della Delegazione Generale di Santa Teresa di Lisieux e Sant'Alberto di Gerusalemme per celebrare il decimo anniversario della nascita della suddetta Delegazione.
Per questa occasione si è celebrata una solenne Eucarestia, durante la quale il Priore Generale ha imposto lo scapolare ad alcuni giovani del nuovo gruppo "Gioventù Carmelitana", e si è organizzato un festival culturale al quale hanno partecipato vari gruppi della Famiglia Carmelitana.
Dal 16 al 20 febbraio ha partecipato al III incontro del laicato carmelitano dell’Asia, che si è tenuto a Vung Tau in Vietnam (Citoc 11/2017). Il Priore Generale ha parlato sullo spirito di famiglia che è già presente nella nostra Regola del Carmelo.
Durante questi mesi il Priore Generale ha visitato i monasteri di Cañete la Real (Málaga) e Siviglia in Spagna e quelli di Guiguinto, Burgos e Tarlac nelle Filippine. In quest’ultimo ha presieduto una solenne Eucaristia durante la quale le Carmelitane della Santissima Trinità sono state accolte nell’Ordine e la prima di loro ha emesso la professione solenne.
