A Meeting of Carmelites in Venezuela
From the 25th of February to the 1st of March, some seventy Carmelites from the different sectors and groups that make up the Venezuelan Carmel met in the in the Convento San José in Mérida (Venezuela). The theme of the meeting was "La experiencia de Dios en tiempos difíciles... el sufrimiento como fábrica de santidad" (The Experiencie of God in Difficult Times- suffering as a workshop of holiness”, The meeting was directed by Fr. Javier Villegas, O.Carm., of the Titus Brandsma General Delegation in Colombia. In the sessions the participants looked, through Carmelite eyes, at all that is happening at the moment in Venezuela. To get this meeting off the ground took a lot of work and effort as there were many difficulties to be overcome.
The participants included friars from the two missions that exist in Venezuela, from the Bética and the Catalonian provinces; Carmelite sisters from the two congregations that have houses in Venezuela - Carmelite Sisters of Mother Candelaria, (HCMC) and Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,(HCSCJ); Carmelite nuns and a broad representation of various groups of lay Carmelites.
At the end, the participants sent a message to the Carmelite Family in which they encourage everyone “to live in allegiance of Jesus Christ in the midst of every difficulty, (...) living out our spirituality authentically in the midst of the people, so in need of prophets of hope.”
The office of CITOC joins in this beautiful challenge, with prayer and fraternal affection.

Encuentro del Carmelo venezolano
Desde el domingo 25 de febrero al jueves 1 de marzo, se reunieron en el Convento San José de Mérida (Venezuela) unos setenta carmelitas de las diversas ramas y grupos que componen el Carmelo venezolano. El encuentro tuvo como tema central "La experiencia de Dios en tiempos difíciles... el sufrimiento como fábrica de santidad" y fue dirigido por el P. Javier Villegas, O.Carm., de la Delegación General Tito Brandsma de Colombia. En el mismo se intentó afrontar desde la espiritualidad carmelita la situación de sufrimiento que se vive en estos tiempos en Venezuela y para su organización se tuvieron que superar muchas dificultades de todo tipo.
Participaron en el mismo, religiosos de las dos realidades existentes en Venezuela (de las provincias Bética y Cataluña); hermanas carmelitas de las dos congregaciones presentes en el país: Carmelitas de Madre Candelaria (HCMC) y Carmelitas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (HCSCJ); monjas contemplativas y una amplia representación de diversos grupos laicales carmelitas.
Al terminar, los participantes mandaron un mensaje a la familia carmelita en el que animan a todos a “a vivir en obsequio de Jesucristo en medio de las dificultades (…), viviendo con autenticidad nuestra espiritualidad en medio de nuestro pueblo que necesita profetas de esperanza”.

Incontro del Carmelo venezuelano
Da domenica 25 febbraio a giovedì 1 marzo si sono riuniti nel convento San José a Mérida, in Venezuela, circa settanta carmelitani dei vari rami e gruppi che formano il Carmelo venezuelano. Il tema centrale dell’incontro, guidato da P. Javier Villegas, O. Carm., della Delegazione Generale Tito Brandsma di Colombia, è stato: “L’esperienza di Dio in tempi difficili … la sofferenza come fabbrica di santità”. Partendo dalla spiritualità carmelitana si è cercato, durante l’incontro, di affrontare la situazione di sofferenza che si vive attualmente in Venezuela. Per la sua organizzazione si sono dovute superare molte difficoltà di vario genere.
All’incontro hanno partecipato i religiosi delle due realtà presenti in Venezuela, appartenenti rispettivamente alla Provincia Bética e a quella di Catalogna; le suore delle due Congregazioni che operano nel Paese: le Carmelitas de Madre Candelaria (HCMC) e le Carmelitas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (HCSCJ); le monache e un’ampia rappresentanza di vari gruppi laicali carmelitani.
Al termine i partecipanti hanno inviato un messaggio alla Famiglia Carmelitana nel quale incoraggiano tutti "a vivere in ossequio di Gesù Cristo in mezzo alle difficoltà (...), vivendo autenticamente la nostra spiritualità in mezzo al popolo che necessita di profeti della speranza".
