Celebrating at Home: Here I Am, Send Me
Vth Sunday of Ordinary Time

As if to balance the rejection Jesus experienced in last week’s Gospel, this week’s episode tells two stories of people who welcome his message. Firstly, an enthusiastic crowd has gathered on the shore of the lake, eagerly pressing forward to hear Jesus’ teaching. Secondly, Luke tells us that Simon and his companions are washing their nets on the shore as Jesus teaches, no doubt listening to what he has to say at the same time.

Amazingly, Simon Peter, James and John abandon their thriving business, leaving everything behind, nets, boats and employees, and follow Jesus. These new disciples of Jesus will use the Word of God to lure men and women to bring about their transformation to new life in Christ.

Our call as disciples is not only to personal holiness but also to partnership with Christ in transforming the world and its peoples with words and actions of justice, peace, integrity, forgiveness, mercy, tolerance, hope and love.

Celebrando en Familia: Aquí estoy, envíame
V Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Como una manera de equilibrar el rechazo que experimentó Jesús en el Evangelio de la semana pasada, el episodio de esta semana narra dos historias de personas que acogen su mensaje. En primer lugar, una muchedumbre entusiasta se ha reunido en la orilla del lago, y acude con entusiasmo a escuchar las enseñanzas de Jesús. En segundo lugar, Lucas nos dice que Simón y sus compañeros están lavando las redes en la orilla mientras Jesús enseña, sin duda escuchando lo que tiene que decir al mismo tiempo.

Sorprendentemente, Simón Pedro, Santiago y Juan abandonan su próspero negocio, dejándolo todo, redes, barcos y empleados, y siguen a Jesús. Estos nuevos discípulos de Jesús utilizarán la Palabra de Dios para atraer a hombres y mujeres y lograr su transformación a una nueva vida en Cristo.

Nuestra llamada como discípulos no es solo a la santidad personal, sino también a asociarnos con Cristo para transformar el mundo y sus pueblos con palabras y acciones de justicia, paz, integridad, perdón, misericordia, tolerancia, esperanza y amor.

Celebrando in Casa: Eccomi, manda me
V Domenica di Tempo Ordinario

Per bilanciare il rifiuto che Gesù ha sperimentato nel Vangelo della settimana scorsa, l’episodio di questa settimana racconta la storia di due persone che accolgono il suo messaggio. In primo luogo, una folla entusiasta si è radunata sulla riva del lago, premendo avidamente per ascoltare l’insegnamento di Gesù. In secondo luogo, Luca ci dice che Simone e i suoi compagni stavano lavando le loro reti sulla riva mentre Gesù insegnava, indubbiamente ascoltando allo stesso tempo ciò che Gesù aveva da dire.

Sopraffatto dall’enorme pesca, Simone avverte sia la presenza del Divino che il proprio essere indegno e prega Gesù di lasciarlo. Le parole di Gesù per lui sono sia una chiamata che un incarico. D’ora in poi non saranno pesci destinati alla morte, ma persone vive quelle che Simone e i suoi compagni attireranno nella comunità dei discepoli.

La nostra chiamata come discepoli non è solo alla santità personale ma anche alla collaborazione con Cristo nel trasformare il mondo e le sue genti con parole e azioni di giustizia, pace, integrità, perdono, misericordia, tolleranza, speranza e amore.
