Celebrating at Home: Freedom and Foregiveness
V Sunday of Lent

We know the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery so well that we usually miss the fact that it is not only the woman who experiences God’s forgiveness through Jesus in this story.  When the scribes and Pharisees persist with their question, Jesus simply says, ‘Let the one without sin be the first to throw a stone at her’, and goes back to his writing.

Like the woman, they are not condemned by Jesus but restored to right relationship with him and the woman – they no longer want to trap Jesus or harm the woman. They quietly leave. Jesus pronounces forgiveness for the woman and tells her not to sin anymore.

We are called, not to be judges over others, but practitioners of God’s lavish compassion and mercy.

Celebrando en Família: Libertad y perdón 
V Domingo del Cuaresma

Conocemos tan bien la historia de la mujer sorprendida en adulterio que solemos pasar por alto el hecho de que en esta historia no es solo la mujer quien experimenta el perdón de Dios a través de Jesús. Cuando los escribas y fariseos insisten en su pregunta, Jesús se limita a decir: ‘el que esté sin pecado, que le tire la primera piedra e inclinándose de nuevo, siguió escribiendo’.

Al igual que la mujer, no son condenados por Jesús, sino que reanudan una relación correcta con él y con la mujer: ya no quieren atrapar a Jesús ni hacer daño a la mujer. Se retiran tranquilamente. Jesús perdona a la mujer y le dice que no vuelva a pecar.

Estamos llamados a no ser jueces de los demás, sino practicantes de la abundante compasión y misericordia de Dios.

Celebrando in Casa: Libertà e perdono
V Domenica di Quaresima

Conosciamo la storia della donna colta in flagrante adulterio così bene che di solito ci sfugge il fatto che non è solo la donna che sperimenta il perdono di Dio attraverso Gesù in questa storia. Quando gli scribi e i farisei insistono con la loro domanda, Gesù dice semplicemente: "Chi di voi è senza peccato, getti per primo la pietra contro di lei", e torna a scrivere.

Come la donna, non sono condannati da Gesù, ma restaurati nella giusta relazione con lui e con la donna - non vogliono più incastrare Gesù o fare del male alla donna. Se ne vanno pacificamente. Gesù pronuncia il perdono per la donna e le dice di non peccare più.

Siamo chiamati a non essere giudici degli altri, ma operatori della sontuosa compassione e misericordia di Dio.
