A Letter of the Prior General to the Carmelite Family
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Carmelite Family: His Holiness, Pope Francis, presiding at the ordinary consistory of cardinals, gave his approval to the canonisation of Blessed Titus Brandsma, O. Carm., a cause of enormous joy to the whole Carmelite Family. In the same act he announced the date on which Blessed Titus would be inscribed among the saints as the 15th of May, 2022. With enormous satisfaction, I take this opportunity to address the Carmelite Family around the world.
The witness of Fr. Titus is one that inspires and enlightens, not only members of the Carmelite Order, but the society in which we live. We find in him in these times so troubled by the threat and existence of war, a prophet of hope and a champion of peace. We are troubled by the millions of people forced to flee from their homes in the Ukraine as the devastation continues in their country. Events in the Ukraine make us think of other parts of the planet too where we can see the wounds of many other conflicts that appear to be forgotten, or treated with indifference. In these situations the Church has the opportunity to make a real contribution, by taking up the teaching of Fratelli tutti, and by placing its trust in the hope of a God who created and will always support the universal brotherhood and sisterhood of his own children. Let us unite our voices with the men and women of good will who in the face of the suffering of the innocent, stand for peace, freedom and the defence of the dignity of every human being. Titus, a true expert of humanity, by shedding his blood out of love (cf. Mk 14,24) taught us that to be a disciple of Jesus Christ means not only that we look up to him and know all that we can about him, but also that we are called to share in the destiny of love that fell to him.

Una Carta del Prior General a la Familia Carmelita
Estimados hermanos y hermanas de la Familia carmelita: Su Santidad, el papa Francisco, presidió, el lunes, 4 de marzo de 2022, el consistorio ordinario de cardenales y aprobó, con gran alegría para toda la Familia carmelita, la canonización del beato Tito Brandsma, O. Carm. Determinó, así mismo, que la fecha en que se inscribirá oficialmente en el libro de los santos será el día 15 de mayo de 2022. Aprovecho esta ocasión para dirigirme con entusiasmo a toda la Familia carmelita.
El testimonio del P. Tito es inspirador y luminoso no sólo para la Orden del Carmen, sino también para nuestra sociedad. Encontramos en su persona, en medio de estos días agitados por el fantasma de la guerra, un profeta de esperanza y un testigo de la paz. Nuestra mirada contempla los millones de personas que se ven obligadas a abandonar su patria por la devastación de Ucrania. La actualidad nos invita también a mirar las heridas de los conflictos bélicos –a veces, con indiferencia, olvidados– que siguen sangrando en otros lugares del planeta. La Iglesia, en estas circunstancias, tiene la oportunidad de aterrizar y hacer realidad la encíclica Fratelli tutti, apostando por la esperanza de un Dios que sueña y cree en la fraternidad universal de sus hijos. Unimos nuestras voces a la de los hombres y mujeres de buena voluntad que, frente al sufrimiento de los inocentes, claman en favor de la paz, la libertad, la defensa de la dignidad de cada persona. Tito, experto en la condición humana, nos enseñó, con su sangre derramada por amor (cf. Mc 14,24), que ser discípulo de Cristo no es sólo admirarlo o saber muchas cosas sobre Él, sino estar dispuesto a compartir su mismo destino de amor.

Carm., sulla canonizzazione del carmelitano Tito Brandsma il 15 maggio in Piazza San Pietro, Città del Vaticano. La croce è la mia gioia
Cari fratelli e sorelle della Famiglia Carmelitana, Sua Santità il Papa Francesco ha presieduto, lunedì 4 marzo 2022, il Concistoro Ordinario dei Cardinali e ha approvato, con grande gioia di tutta la Famiglia Carmelitana, la canonizzazione del Beato Titus Brandsma, O. Carm. Ha anche stabilito che la data in cui sarà ufficialmente iscritto nell’Albo dei Santi sarà il 15 maggio 2022. Colgo l'occasione per rivolgermi con entusiasmo a tutta la Famiglia Carmelitana.
La testimonianza del p. Titus è stimolante e illuminante non solo per l'Ordine Carmelitano ma anche per la nostra società. Troviamo in lui, in mezzo a questi giorni agitati dallo spettro della guerra, un profeta di speranza e un testimone di pace, mentre guardiamo milioni di persone costrette a lasciare la loro patria a causa della devastazione dell'Ucraina. Oggi siamo anche invitati a guardare le ferite della guerra - a volte indifferentemente dimenticate -che continuano a sanguinare in altre parti del mondo. La Chiesa, in queste circostanze, ha l'opportunità di portare l'enciclica Fratelli tutti al mondo e di farla diventare realtà, scommettendo sulla speranza di un Dio che sogna e crede nella fratellanza universale dei suoi figli. Uniamo le nostre voci a quelle di uomini e donne di buona volontà che, di fronte alla sofferenza degli innocenti, gridano per la pace, la libertà, la difesa della dignità di ogni persona. Titus, esperto della condizione umana, ci ha insegnato, con il suo sangue versato per amore (cfr. Mc 14,24), che essere discepoli di Cristo non è solo ammirarlo o sapere molte cose di Lui, ma essere pronti a condividere il suo stesso destino di amore.
