Carmelite Monastery of  Santa Teresa de Jesús in Santo Domingo Celebrated 40th aniversario of its Foundation on October 15

On October 15, the feast day of St. Teresa of Jesus, the Carmelite nuns of the Monastery of St. Teresa in Santo Domingo celebrated the 40th anniversary of their foundation. With great joy, the Carmelite community of the Mount Carmel House of Formation participated in the Holy Eucharist which was presided by Bishop Faustino Burgos Brisman, CM, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo.

In his homily the bishop emphasized the life of St. Teresa of Jesus, her service to the Church, her teachings and her writings as the first doctor of the Church. The spiritual depth of her doctrine makes us taste the living source that is Christ. Her encounter with the humanity of Jesus changed her life, showing him to the world as a reference not only for the consecrated life, but for every Christian.

Monasterio carmelita de Santa Teresa de Jesús en Santo Domingo celebra 40 aniversario de su fundación el 15 octubre 

El 15 de octubre, festividad de Santa Teresa de Jesús, las monjas carmelitas del Monasterio de Santa Teresa en Santo Domingo celebraron el 40 aniversario de su fundación. Con gran alegría, la comunidad carmelita de la Casa de Formación Monte Carmelo participó en la Santa Eucaristía que fue presidida por Mons. Faustino Burgos Brisman, CM, obispo auxiliar de la Arquidiócesis de Santo Domingo.

En su homilía el obispo destacó la vida de Santa Teresa de Jesús, su servicio a la Iglesia, sus enseñanzas y sus escritos como primera doctora de la Iglesia. La profundidad espiritual de su doctrina nos hace saborear la fuente viva que es Cristo. Su encuentro con la humanidad de Jesús cambió su vida, mostrándolo al mundo como una referencia no sólo para la vida consagrada, sino para todo cristiano.

Il Monastero carmelitano di Santa Teresa di Gesù a Santo Domingo celebra il 40° anniversario della sua fondazione il 15 ottobre

Il 15 ottobre, giorno della festa di Santa Teresa di Gesù, le monache carmelitane del Monastero di Santa Teresa a Santo Domingo hanno celebrato il 40° anniversario della loro fondazione. Con grande gioia, la comunità carmelitana della Casa di Formazione del Monte Carmelo ha partecipato alla Santa Eucaristia presieduta da Mons. Faustino Burgos Brisman, CM, vescovo ausiliare dell'arcidiocesi di Santo Domingo.

Nella sua omelia il vescovo ha sottolineato la vita di Santa Teresa di Gesù, il suo servizio alla Chiesa, i suoi insegnamenti e i suoi scritti come primo dottore della Chiesa. La profondità spirituale della sua dottrina ci fa gustare la fonte viva che è Cristo. Il suo incontro con l'umanità di Gesù ha cambiato la sua vita, mostrandolo al mondo come riferimento non solo per la vita consacrata, ma per ogni cristiano.

Carmelite Centre d'Études (CEHS) in Nantes, France Begins 2022-2023 Program of Carmelite Spirtuality Conferences

On September 15, the Carmelite Centre d'études d'histoire de la spiritualité (CEHS) in Nantes started the program of Conferences on Carmelite Spirituality for the year 2022-2023, with a seminar conducted by Frère Gianfranco Tuveri, O. Carm., on Saint Mary Magdalene de Pazzi.

The conferences entitled Sainte Marie Madeleine de Pazzi et set Oeuvres launched also the latest publication by Frère Gianfranco, of The Colloquies of the Florentine mystic. The volume, entitled Entretiens was published by the prestigious Parisian Publishing House Honoré Champion. This volume is the last one of a larger project by Frère Gianfranco: the translation of the Complete Works of St Mary Magdalene de Pazzi in French, completed with critical introductions and notes. The whole project took twenty years to complete, with the first edition of Les Quarante Jours published by Editions Jérôme Million in 2002.

The program of the conferences CEHS, Parcours "La Source du Carmel" Découvrir la Spiritualité Carmélitaine includes seminars of Blessed Françoise d'Amboise, the Rule of Carmel, The Prophet Elijah, John of Saint Samson and Titus Brandsma.

El Centro Carmelita de Estudios de la Espiritualidad (CEHS) de Nantes, Francia, inicia el programa de Conferencias de Espiritualidad Carmelita para el año 2022-2023

El 15 de septiembre, el Centro Carmelita de Estudios de Historia de la Espiritualidad (CEHS) de Nantes inició el programa de Conferencias de Espiritualidad Carmelita para el año 2022-2023, con un seminario dirigido por el Padre Gianfranco Tuveri, O. Carm., sobre Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi.

Las conferencias tituladas Sainte Marie Madeleine de Pazzi et set Oeuvres lanzaron también la última publicación de Frère Gianfranco, de Los Coloquios de la mística florentina. El volumen, titulado Entretiens fue publicado por la prestigiosa editorial parisina Honoré Champion. Este volumen es el último de un proyecto más amplio de Frère Gianfranco: la traducción al francés de las Obras Completas de Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi, completadas con introducciones y notas críticas. El proyecto completo ha durado veinte años, y la primera edición de Les Quarante Jours fue publicada por Editions Jérôme Million en 2002.

Il 15 settembre, il Centro carmelitano di studi di storia della spiritualità (CEHS) di Nantes ha dato inizio al programma di conferenze sulla spiritualità carmelitana per l'anno 2022-2023, con un seminario condotto da padre Gianfranco Tuveri, O. Carm., su Santa Maria Maddalena de Pazzi.

Le conferenze dal titolo Sainte Marie Madeleine de Pazzi et set Oeuvres hanno dato il via anche all'ultima pubblicazione di padre Gianfranco, I colloqui della mistica fiorentina. Il volume, intitolato Entretiens, è stato pubblicato dalla prestigiosa casa editrice parigina Honoré Champion. Questo volume è l'ultimo di un progetto più ampio di Frère Gianfranco: la traduzione in francese delle Opere complete di Santa Maria Maddalena de Pazzi, completate da introduzioni critiche e note. L'intero progetto ha richiesto vent'anni di lavoro e la prima edizione di Les Quarante Jours è stata pubblicata dalle Edizioni Jérôme Million nel 2002.

Academic Commemoration of the Centenary of the Publication of Clavis Ecclesiae by Fr. Bartolomé Xiberta, O. Carm.

On November 22, at 3 p.m., the Pontifical Gregorian University will hold an academic event to commemorate the centenary of the publication of the Clavis Ecclesiae of Father Bartolomé Xiberta.

The event is organized jointly by the Order of Carmel and the Gregorian University. Mark Andrew Lewis S.J., and the Prior General, Fr. Míċeál O'Neill, O. Carm. The speakers, Josep M. Manresa Lamarca, Valfredo Maria Rossi, Joseph Carola S.J., and Fernando Millán Romeral O. Carm, will present the figure of Father Xiberta and various aspects of his thesis. The thesis will be read in the light of the preceding ecclesiology and the patristic elements present in it. The process of reception of Fr. Xiberta's text up to Vatican II will also be presented.

Those interested in participating in person are asked to register through the website: www.unigre.it. The deadline is November 14, 2022. Those who cannot attend in person will be able to follow the event via streaming at bit.ly/gregonline. The entire event will be in Italian.

This initiative is part of the activities proposed by the Order for the commemoration of this event. The celebration of this event has been made possible thanks to the generous and assiduous support of the Catalan Province of the Most Holy Redeemer.

Acto académico en conmemoración del centenario de la publicación de la Clavis Ecclesiae del P. Bartolomé Xiberta, O. Carm., celebrado conjuntamente con la Universidad Pontificia Gregoriana

El próximo 22 de noviembre, a las 15h, en la Pontificia Universidad Gregoriana tendrá un acto académico en conmemoración del centenario de la publicación de la Clavis Ecclesiae del P. Bartolomé Xiberta.

El acto está organizado conjuntamente por la Orden de los Carmelitas y la Universidad Gregoriana. Intervendrán durante el mismo el Rector de la Gregoriana, P. Mark Andrew Lewis S.J., y el Prior General, P. Míċeál O’Neill, O. Carm. Los ponentes, Don Josep M. Manresa Lamarca, Don Valfredo Maria Rossi, P. Joseph Carola S.J, y P. Fernando Millán Romeral O. Carm, presentarán la figura del P. Xiberta, y varios aspectos de su tesis. Esta será leída a la luz de la eclesiología antecedente y de los elementos patrísticos presentes en la misma. Se presentará además el proceso de recepción del texto del P. Xiberta hasta llegar al Vaticano II.

Se ruega a las personas interesadas en participar de forma presencial a registrarse mediante el sitio web: www.unigre.it. La fecha límite es el 14 de noviembre de 2022. Commemorazione del centenario della pubblicazione della Clavis Ecclesiae di P. Bartolomé Xiberta O. Carm assieme alla Pontificia Università Gregoriana.

Il prossimo 22 novembre, alle ore 15,00, presso la Pontificia Università Gregoriana si terrà un atto accademico in commemorazione del centenario della pubblicazione della Clavis Ecclesiae di P. Bartolomé Xiberta.

Durante l’atto, organizzato congiuntamente dall’Ordine e dalla stessa Pontificia Università, interverranno il Rettore della PUG, P. Mark Andrew Lewis S.J., il Priore Generale P. Míċeál O’Neill, O. Carm. I relatori Don Josep M. Manresa Lamarca, Don Valfredo Maria Rossi, P. Joseph Carola S.J, e P. Fernando Millán Romeral O. Carm., presenteranno la figura di Xiberta, e varie sfaccettature del testo della sua tesi. Esso sarà letto alla luce dell’ecclesiologia antecedente, degli elementi patristici ivi presenti, e infine studiando la sua recezione fino al Vaticano II.

Edizioni Publishes Exercise of Loving Solitary Spirits in their Solitudes Meditations of John of St. Samson

A book of 30 meditations by John of St. Samson inviting us to listen in on his prayers of aspiration as the Church makes its way through the liturgical year and through the various Mysteries of Christ and His Church. John of St. Samson was a French Carmelite and mystic. He is known as the soul of the Touraine Reform of the Carmelite Order, which stressed prayer, silence, and solitude.

John was blind from the age of three after contracting smallpox and receiving poor medical treatment for the disease. He insisted very strongly on the mystical devotion of the Carmelites. After a series of healings word spread and the local bishop asked his theologian his opinoin of the healings. The theologian replied, "If people had the faith of Br. John, and lived as authetically as he, the gift of healing the sick would be far more common."

Donatien of St. Nicholas, a disciple and editor of his works "it is certain that this illuminated blind brother has been chosen and given to us by God to be the teacher and director of the spiritual life of our Reform." Donatien later wrote "his face was frequently beheld to be divinely radiant, resplendent with as it were some luminous ray, as I myself and other very trustworthy brothers have witnessed." John of St. Samson has been referred to as the "French John of the Cross" by students of Christian mysticism.

The work is expertly translated from the French by Carmelite nun Sr. Veronica of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of the Wahpeton cloistered Carmel. In his preface to the book,  Fr. Charlò Camilleri writes "Notwithstanding the fact that blindness impeded him from using visual imagery to clarify his ideas, and that the texts are generally full of crowded ideas, digressions, and loosely connected concepts, his doctrine is sound and inspires the reader to live radically the call to divine transformation."

El Precio de la Verdad: Tito Brandsma, Carmelita
por Miguel María Arribas, O. Carm.

La biografía del mártir más reciente de la Iglesia--un fraile peligroso según los nazis--el P. Arribas logra captar el corazón y el alma de las lecciones de San Tito Brandsma para nosotros hoy. Todos conocemos la vida de Tito, pero en este libro el P. Arribas explora la documentación que hay detrás del proceso de canonización para demostrar por qué Tito es tan importante para hoy.

Un carmelita sencillo y cordial, un sacerdote polifacético que fue a veces místico, periodista apasionado, rector de una universidad y, a lo largo de toda su vida, un testigo impulsado de Cristo hasta dar su propia vida por la verdad.

El autor, ya fallecido, viajó a los Países Bajos y a Alemania, a los lugares de nacimiento, vida y muerte de San Tito para entender mejor a este "mártir de la libertad de expresión".

S. Maria Maddalena de'Pazzi: Passione per l'Uomo e per la Chiesa di P. Luca M. Di Girolamo

La vicenda storico-teologica ed esistenziale di S. Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi (1566-1607) si svolge nell’ambito dell’atmosfera conciliare tridentina e si colloca tra un Rinascimento declinante ed un Barocco che si sta affermando.

Il presente volume raccoglie e amplifica, in parte, alcuni studi sulla santa e sul suo pensiero teologico-mistico che l’ha portata a scandagliare il Mistero di Dio in maniera singolare. Dalla lettura e meditazione della Scrittura e dalla celebrazione eucaristica, la santa carmelitana fa scaturire dense riflessioni e tutta una teologia molto profonda che mette in luce il discorso su Dio, sull’uomo e sulla Chiesa. Nei suoi scritti, a diversi livelli, si evidenzia il suo amore per Dio, per l’umanità bisognosa di redenzione e per la Chiesa chiamata a testimoniare la misericordia di Dio, rendendosi altresì conto degli effetti deleteri che il peccato produce.

L'autore, P. Luca M. Di Girolamo si è laureato in materie letterarie ed è entrato nell’Ordine dei Servi di Maria compiendo gli studi filosofico–teologici iniziali di Baccelierato presso la Pontificia Università Gregoriana e la Pontificia Facoltà Teologica “Marianum”. Successivamente è tornato alla Pontificia Università Gregoriana dove ha conseguito la licenza (1992) e la laurea (1997) in Teologia. Attualmente insegna presso la Pontificia Facoltà Teologica “Marianum”. Diversi sono i campi di interesse teologico e culturale (teologia dogmatica, mariologia, medioevo, agiografia e musica operistica). Ha prodotto diverse pubblicazioni su riviste e, nel 2010, il suo primo volume su S. Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi.
