Juana Fernandez Solar was born on 13th July 1900 at Santiago in Chile, to Christian middle-class parents. he example and the teaching of her parents were the foundation of her Christian education.

On 7th May 1919, to the joy of her parents, she joined the Discalced Carmelite nuns in the city of Los Andes, taking the name of Teresa of Jesus. She was clothed in the habit on the following 14th October and then began her novitiate. But on Good Friday, 2nd April 1920 she caught typhus. On 5th April, she received the last sacraments and on the 6th, she made her religious profession, in articulo mortis. She died on 12th April 1920 after having spent only 11 months in Carmel, as a postulant and a novice. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II on 21st March 1993 and proposed as an example for young people in today's Church.

Juana Fernández Solar nació el 13 de julio de 1900 en Santiago de Chile, de padres de buena posición y cristianos piadosos. El ejemplo y las enseñanzas de sus padres fue su primera educación cristiana.

El 7 de mayo de 1919, con la aprobación de sus padres, entró en el monasterio de las Carmelitas Descalzas de la ciudad de Los Andes, tomando el nombre de Teresa de Jesús. Recibió el hábito religioso el 14 de octubre del mismo año y comenzó el noviciado. Pero el Viernes Santo del 2 de abril de 1920 enfermó de tifus. El día 5 recibió los últimos sacramentos y el 6 hizo la profesión religiosa in artículo mortis. Expiró santamente el 12 de abril de 1920, después de haber transcurrido en el Carmelo, como postulante y como novicia, sólamente 11 meses. Canonizada por Juan Pablo II el 21 de marzo de 1993, ha sido propuesta como modelo para los jóvenes en la Iglesia de hoy.

Juana Fernández Solar nacque il 13 luglio 1900 a Santiago del Cile, da genitori benestanti e piissimi cristiani. L'esempio e gli insegnamenti dei genitori furono la sua prima educazione cristiana.

Il 7 maggio 1919 entrò, con l'approvazione dei genitori, tra le Carmelitane Scalze della cittadina di Los Andes, prendendo il nome di Teresa di Gesù. Prese l'abito religioso il 14 ottobre successivo e iniziò il noviziato. Ma il venerdì santo del 2 aprile 1920 fu colta da tifo. Il giorno 5 ricevette gli ultimi sacramenti e il 6 emise la professione religiosa in articulo mortis. Spirò santamente il 12 aprile 1920, dopo aver trascorso al Carmelo, come postulante e come novizia, soltanto undici mesi. Canonizzata da Giovanni Paolo II il 21 marzo 1993, è proposta come modello per i giovani della Chiesa d'oggi.
