St. Albert of Trapani, priest Hide Yourself by the Brook Cherith The word of the Lord came to Elijah saying: Depart from here and go eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith near the Jordan, and there you will drink from the brook. Now these salutary commands which the Holy Spirit prompted Elijah to obey, and this promise of good things which he was moved to desire, ought to be weighed word by word with the greatest care by us, monks and solitaries, and this in a mystical sense, for they contain the full meaning of our vocation. Alberto de Trápani, sacerdote Escóndete junto al arroyo Querit La palabra del Señor le llegó a Elías diciendo: «Vete de aquí y dirígete hacia el este, y escóndete junto al arroyo Querit, cerca del Jordán; ahí beberás del arroyo». Ahora bien, estas órdenes saludables que el Espíritu Santo impulsó a Elías a obedecer, y esta promesa de cosas buenas que lo movió a desear, debemos sopesarlas palabra por palabra con el mayor cuidado, nosotros, monjes y solitarios, y esto en un sentido místico, pues contienen el significado completo de nuestra vocación. Sant' Alberto da Trapani, sacerdote Nasconditi presso il Torrente Cherit La parola del Signore giunse a Elia dicendo: «Parti da qui e vai verso est, e nasconditi presso il torrente Cherit, vicino al Giordano; lì berrai dal torrente». Ora, questi comandi salutari che lo Spirito Santo spinse Elia a seguire, e questa promessa di cose buone che lo spinse a desiderare, dovrebbero essere soppesati parola per parola con la massima cura da noi, monaci e eremiti, e questo in senso mistico, poiché contengono il significato completo della nostra vocazione.
