The 4th ALACAR Congress in San Salvador
Recently, from the 26th to the 32st of October, the 4th Congress of the Association of Latin American Carmelites (ALACAR) took place at the retreat house of the Sagrado Corazón de Cantón Ayagualo (La Libertad, El Salvador). This gathering is held every three years. Up to now it has been held in Lima (Peru) in 2006, in Villa Leiva (Colombia) in 2009, and in Sao Paolo (Brazil) in 2012.
On this occasion, there were 130 participants, including friars, both O.Carm. and O.C.D., cloistered nuns, O.C.D., sisters of various congregations of apostolic life, and lay Carmelites from various groups (Third Order, Secular Carmelites, Youth groups, etc.) The main theme of the congress was, “Teresa of Jesus: woman, mystic and prophet: A window of hope for Lain America”. The speakers included, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., who spoke about prophesy in Carmel today; the Superior General of the Discalced Carmelites, Saverio Cannistrà, O.C.D. who spoke about prophesy in the mysticism of Teresa of Jesus;  Fr. Oswaldo Escobar, O.C.D. provincial of the Central American province, who spoke about Teresa’s conversions, and Bishop Silvio Báez, auxiliary bishop of Managua, Nicaragua, who spoke about the relationship between Teresa of Jesus and “Evangelii gaudium”.
On the last day, the participants visited a number of places associated with the life of Bishop Oscar Romero: UCA (The University of Central America), where the group of Jesuits and their co-worker were assassinated, and where they keep the Scapular that Romero was wearing when he died; the Cathedral in the crypt of which the remains of Blessed Oscar Arnulfo Romero are kept; the little hospital where the house that Romero lived in is located, as well as the chapel in which he was assassinated and where the final Mass of this year’s congress was celebrated.
The meeting was organised and coordinated by Fr. Raul Maravi Cabrera, O.Carm., Councillor General for the Americas and Bro.Luis David Pérez, O.C.D., along with Fr. Francisco Javier Mena, O.C.D., Definitor for Latin America. The joint O.Carm.- O.C.D. commission will continue to work in preparation for the next meeting in 2018.

IV Congreso de ALACAR en San Salvador
Los pasados días 26 al 31 de octubre ha tenido lugar en la casa de retiros Sagrado Corazón de Cantón Ayagualo (La libertad, El Salvador) el IV congreso de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Carmelitas (ALACAR). Esta asamblea tiene lugar cada tres años y hasta ahora se ha celebrado en Lima (Perú) en 2006, en Villa de Leiva (Colombia) en 2009 y en Sao Paulo (Brasil) en 2012.
En esta ocasión han participado 130 personas, entre las que se encontraban religiosos, tanto O.Carm. como OCD, monjas de clausura, religiosas de diversas congregaciones de vida activa y laicos de varios grupos (TOC, Carmelitas seglares, grupo juveniles, etc.). El tema central del encuentro fue: “Teresa de Jesús: mujer, mística, profeta. Una ventana de esperanza para América Latina.” y en el mismo participaron, entre otros, el Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm. (que disertó sobre las profecías del Carmelo actual), el Prepósito General de los Carmelitas descalzos, Saverio Cannistrà OCD (que habló sobre el profetismo en la mística de Santa Teresa), el P. Oswaldo Escobar, OCD, provincial de Centro América (quien habló sobre las conversiones de Teresa) y Monseñor Silvio Báez, OCD, obispo auxiliar de Managua, Nicaragua (quien habló sobre la relación entre Santa Teresa y la “Evangelii Gaudium”).
El último día, los participantes visitaron los lugares relacionados con la vida de Monseñor Romero: la UCA (Universidad Centroamericana), donde fueron asesinados los jesuitas y donde se encuentra el escapulario con el que murió Romero, la catedral en cuya cripta se encuentran los restos del ya beato Oscar Arnulfo Romero, y el hospitalito donde se encuentran la pequeña casa donde Mons. Romero vivió y la capilla en que fue asesinado y donde se celebró la Eucaristía de clausura del congreso.
El encuentro fue coordinado por el P. Raúl Maraví Cabrera, O.Carm., consejero para América y por Fray Luis David Pérez, OCD, así como por el P. Francisco Javier Mena, OCD, definidor para América Latina. La comisión OCarm-OCD seguirá trabajando para preparar el próximo encuentro en 2018.

IV Congresso di ALACAR in El Salvador
Dal 26 al 31 ottobre si è tenuto nella casa per ritiri “Sagrado Corazón de Cantón Ayagualo a La Libertad" in El Salvador il IV Congresso dell’Associazione latinoamericana dei Carmelitani (ALACAR). In passato quest’assemblea, a cadenza triennale, è stata celebrata a Lima (Perù) nel 2006, a Villa de Leiva (Colombia) nel 2009 e a San Paolo (Brasile) nel 2012. Per quest’occasione hanno partecipato 130 persone, tra le quali vi erano religiosi O.Carm. e OCD, monache di clausura, suore di varie congregazioni di vita attiva e gruppi di laici (TOC, Carmelo secolare, gruppi giovanili, etc…).
Il tema principale dell’incontro è stato: “Teresa di Gesù: donna, mistica, profeta. Una finestra di speranza per America Latina”. Tra i vari relatori che sono intervenuti ricordiamo: il Priore Generale, P. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., che ha tenuto una conferenza sulla dimensione profetica del Carmelo odierno; il Preposito Generale dei Carmelitani Scalzi, P. Saverio Cannistrà OCD, che ha parlato sul profetismo nella mistica di Santa Teresa; P. Oswaldo Escobar OCD, provinciale di Centro America, sulle conversioni di Teresa; infine, Mons. Silvio Báez OCD, vescovo ausiliare di Managua in Nicaragua, sulla relazione tra Santa Teresa e la “Evangelii Gaudium”.
Durante l’ultimo giorno i partecipanti hanno visitato i luoghi legati alla vita di Mons. Romero: l’UCA (Universidad Centroamericana) dove sono stati assassinati i gesuiti e dove si trova lo scapolare con il quale Romero è morto, la cattedrale nella cui cripta adesso è sepolto il beato Oscar Arnulfo Romero e l’ospedale dove sono ubicate la piccola casa in cui viveva Mons. Romero e la cappella nella quale è stato assassinato; qui si è tenuta la celebrazione eucaristica che ha concluso il congresso.
L’incontro è stato coordinato da P. Raúl Maraví Cabrera, O.Carm., Consigliere Generale per le Americhe e da Fr. Luis David Pérez OCD e P. Francisco Javier Mena OCD, Definitore per America Latina. La commissione O.Carm.-OCD continuerà a lavorare per preparare il prossimo incontro nel 2018.
