Twenty Years of Karit, the Carmelite NGO
On the recent 10th and 11th of April, an extraordinary assembly of the “Karit – Solidarios por la paz” NGO, to place in the parish hall in Ayala, Madrid, to mark the 20th anniversary of its foundation. The guests included the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, the Councilor General for Europe, John Keating, the Superiors General of the Spanish Carmelite Congregations of women (Sr. Carmen Aparicio and Sr. Rosario Gonzalez) and the provincials of the three provinces in Spain, (Francisco Daza, O.Carm., Manuel Bonilla, O.Carm., and Luis Gallardo, O.Carm.). Both the President of Karit, Fr. David Oliver, O.Carm., and the Secretary, Sr. Arlyn Medina Vazquez HVMMC, expressed their thank for the presence of so many Carmelites (lay and religious) from many different places.  
After the presentation of the history of Karit with the aid of a photo montage, the Prior General spoke about justice and peace and the Carmelite charism. Following that, there was the launch of a publication for this anniversary called “20 by 20”. As well as that the assembly made an evaluation of the work of Karit and of the projects that it is guiding and supporting in different parts of the world.
Karit is defined as a Carmelite NGO, in the service of development, sponsored by the Iberian Region, and in connection with other Christian oriented NGOs. Along with the work of awareness-raising and formation, Karit executes projects in needy places all around the world, mostly where there is a Carmelite presence. It also promotes the work of volunteers (which helps to keep expenses at a minimum) following its own motto, “Con poco, mucho” (A little goes a long way). CITOC would like to congratulate Karit for twenty years of fruitful service to those most in need.

20 años de la ONG Carmelita Karit
Los pasados días 10 y 11 de abril, tuvo lugar en los salones de la parroquia de la calle Ayala de Madrid la asamblea extraordinaria de la ONGD “Karit - Solidarios por la paz”, con motivo del 20º aniversario de su fundación. En la misma participaron como invitados el Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm, el Consejero para Europa, P. John Keating, O.Carm, las Madres Generales de las dos congregaciones femeninas españolas (M. Carmen Aparicio y M. Rosario González) y los provinciales de las tres provincias de España (Francisco Daza, O.Carm., Manuel Bonilla, O.Carm, y Luis Gallardo, O.Carm.). Tanto el presidente de Karit (P. David Oliver, O.Carm.) como la Secretaria (Hna. Arlyn Medina Vázquez, HVMMC) agradecieron la presencia de tantos carmelitas (religiosos y laicos) de diversas procedencias.
Tras repasar brevemente la historia de Karit a través de un montaje fotográfico, el Prior General dio una conferencia sobre la justicia y la paz y el carisma carmelita. Posteriormente se presentó una publicación con motivo del aniversario titulada “20 por 20”. Asimismo, la asamblea hizo una evaluación de la labor de Karit y de los proyectos que se están llevando a cabo en diversos países del mundo.
Karit se define como una ONGD carmelita, al servicio del desarrollo, patrocinada por la Región Ibérica y en conexión con otras ONG’s de inspiración cristiana. Junto a la labor de sensibilización y de formación, Karit lleva a cabo sus proyectos en realidades necesitadas de todo el mundo, fundamentalmente con presencia carmelita. Asimismo, fomenta el trabajo con voluntarios (lo que reduce al mínimo los gastos de gestión), haciendo así realidad su lema: “Con poco, mucho”. Desde Citoc felicitamos a Karit por estos 20 años de fecundo servicio a los más necesitados.

20 anni della ONG Carmelitana Karit
Gli scorsi 10 e 11 aprile ha avuto luogo, nei saloni della parrocchia di via Ayala (Madrid), l’assemblea straordinaria della ONGD “Karit - Solidali per la pace”, a motivo del ventesimo anniversario dalla sua fondazione. A questa hanno partecipato come invitati il Priore Generale, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., il Consigliere per l’Europa, P. John Keating, O.Carm., le Madri Generali delle due congregazioni femminili spagnole  (M. Carmen Aparicio e M. Rosario González) e i provinciali delle tre province spagnole (Francisco Daza, O.Carm., Manuel Bonilla, O.Carm., Luis Gallardo, O.Carm.). Sia il presidente di Karit (P. David Olivier, O.Carm.), sia la Segretaria (Suor Arlyn Medina Vázquez, HVMMC) hanno espresso la loro gratitudine per la presenza di tanti carmelitani (sia religiosi che laici) di varie provenienze.
 Dopo l'esposizione della storia di Karit attraverso una presentazione fotografico, il Priore Generale ha tenuto una conferenza riguardo il tema di "Giustizia e Pace" nel carisma carmelitano. Successivamente è stata presentata una pubblicazione, a motivo dell’anniversario, avente come titolo “20 por 20”. Inoltre, l’assemblea ha fatto una valutazione del lavoro di Karit e dei progetti che si stanno portando avanti nei diversi paesi del mondo.

Karit si definisce come una ONGD carmelitana al servizio dello sviluppo, patrocinata dalla Regione Iberica e legata ad altre ONG di ispirazione cristiana. Insieme al lavoro di sensibilizzazione e di formazione, Karit porta avanti i suoi progetti in realtà bisognose di tutto il mondo, principalmente con la presenza carmelitana. Inoltre, favorisce il volontariato (cosa che aiuta a ridurre al minimo le spese di gestione), rendendo quindi vero il proprio motto: “Con poco, mucho” (Con poco, molto). Dal CITOC vogliamo fare gli auguri a Karit per questi 20 anni di fecondo servizio ai più bisognosi.
