The Second Congress of Carmelite Schools
From the 5th to the 10th of November, 2017, the Second International Congress of Carmelite Schools took place in Rome. The congress was organised by the General Commission for this area under the presidency of Fr. Raúl Maraví Cabrera, O.Carm. The first congress took place in Dublin in 2010, to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of the first Carmelite college in modern times, namely, Terenure College. At this second congress the seventy participants from the five continents stayed at the Domus Carmelitana and in the international houses of our Order in Rome. They included many lay people and a number of religious sisters from different Carmelite congregations.
The title of this congress was, "Carmel, a life of fullness and beauty". The speakers (Anne-Maríe Bos, Albertus Herwanta, Kate McGarey-Vasey, Richard Byrne, John Haggerty and Eduardo Agosta Scarel) illustrated, from a number of points of view, the possibility of handing on specific Carmelite values (contemplation, reflection, day to day spirituality, and Carmelite ecology) to the children and young people who attend our colleges and schools. What they said was studied in language groups and then discussed further in a plenary session. As well as that participants shared a variety of materials that they brought from their respective locations, such as audio/visuals, books, and means of advertising.
On Wednesday, the 8th, the participants all went to the audience with Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square. On the 9th the congress closed, with a celebration of the Eucharist led by the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., who, in his homily, emphasised the importance of the teaching apostolate which is so much part of the lives of many of the provinces of the Order. He encouraged the participants to continue in their reflection on this wonderful area of evangelisation and humanisation, with creativity and generosity.

II Congreso de Escuelas Carmelitas
Los pasados días 5 al 10 de noviembre ha tenido lugar en Roma el II Congreso internacional de Escuelas carmelitas, organizado por la Comisión General responsable de este tema, presidida por el P. Raúl Maraví Cabrera, O.Carm. El I Congreso tuvo lugar en Dublín en 2010 con motivo del 150º aniversario del primer colegio carmelita en los tiempos modernos (Terenure College). Los setenta participantes (procedentes de los cinco continentes) se han alojado en la Domus Carmelitana y en las casas internacionales de la Orden en Roma. Entre ellos se encontraban muchos laicos y varias hermanas de diversas congregaciones femeninas carmelitas.
El tema de este congreso ha sido “El Carmelo: una vida de plenitud y belleza”. Los diversos ponentes (Anne-Maríe Bos, Albertus Herwanta, Kate McGarey-Vasey, Richard Byrne, John Haggerty y Eduardo Agosta Scarel) han subrayado desde diversas ópticas la posibilidad de trasmitir ciertos valores carmelitas (contemplación, reflexión, espiritualidad de lo cotidiano, ecología carmelita) con los niños y jóvenes que estudian en nuestros colegios. Sus reflexiones fueron trabajadas en grupos lingüísticos y discutidas en el aula. Asimismo, se han compartido materiales (audiovisuales, libros, objetos publicitarios) de los diversos colegios participantes.
El miércoles día 8 los participantes en el congreso acudieron a la audiencia general con el Papa Francisco que tuvo lugar en la plaza de San Pedro. El jueves 9 se clausuró el congreso con una eucaristía presidida por el Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., quien insistió en su homilía en la importancia de este apostolado tan relevante en muchas provincias de nuestra Orden e invitó a los congresistas a seguir reflexionando con creatividad y generosidad en este maravilloso ámbito de evangelización y humanización.

Secondo Congresso delle scuole carmelitane
Dal 5 al 10 novembre si è tenuto a Roma il secondo Congresso internazionale delle scuole carmelitane, organizzato dalla Commissione Generale responsabile di questo ambito e presieduta da P. Raúl Maraví Cabrera, O.Carm. Il primo Congresso si è celebrato a Dublino nel 2010 in occasione del 150° anniversario del primo collegio carmelitano nei tempi moderni (Terenure College). Tra i settanta partecipanti, provenienti dai cinque continenti e alloggiati nelle case internazionali dell’Ordine a Roma, vi erano molti laici e varie suore appartenenti alle diverse Congregazioni carmelitane femminili.
Il tema del Congresso è stato: “Il Carmelo: una vita di pienezza e bellezza”. I vari relatori, Anne-Maríe Bos, Albertus Herwanta, Kate McGarey-Vasey, Richard Byrne, John Haggerty ed Eduardo Agosta Scarel, hanno sottolineato da diversi punti di vista la possibilità di trasmettere alcuni valori carmelitani - come contemplazione, riflessione, spiritualità del quotidiano, ecologia carmelitana - ai ragazzi e ai giovani che studiano presso le nostre scuole. I loro contributi sono stati resi oggetto di riflessione nei gruppi linguistici e discussi in assemblea. Si è avuta inoltre la possibilità di condividere alcuni materiali (audiovisivi, libri, oggetti di pubblicità) relativi alle varie scuole che hanno partecipato al suddetto Congresso.
Mercoledì 8 novembre i partecipanti si sono recati in Piazza San Pietro per l’udienza con Papa Francesco. Il giorno seguente, giovedì 9 novembre, il Congresso si è concluso con l’eucaristia preseduta dal Priore Generale, P. Fernando Millán Romeral, O. Carm., il quale, nella sua omelia, ha insistito sulla importanza di questo apostolato così rilevante in tante Province dell’Ordine e ha invitato i partecipanti a continuare a riflettere con creatività e generosità in questo meraviglioso campo di evangelizzazione e umanizzazione.
