Biannual Meeting of the O.Carm and OCD Councils
Last June 1st, the biannual meeting of our General Council with that of our Discalced brothers took place in our Curia in Rome. After praying Midday Prayer, the Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., welcomed the members of the OCD General Council and presented the program of this meeting that follows the meetings that have been taking place regularly for more than 25 years.
To begin, the theme of the triennial meeting of both councils that will take place in Dublin (Ireland) from May 27 to 31, 2019, was set: "The missionary journey of Carmel today". In view of that, a small committee was formed by Fr. John Keating, O.Carm. and Fr. Daniel Chowning, OCD., to have responsibility for preparing the meeting.
Both councils were informed of the preparations for the "Carmelite Day" that will be celebrated on January 28, 2019 within the framework of the World Youth Day that will take place in Panama. The Discalced Carmelites from the Province of Central America and the Carmelites from El Salvador are collaborating for this day.
Likewise, the program for the 5th meeting of ALACAR (Latin American Association of  Carmelites) that will take place in Santo Domingo next autumn was presented. The theme of this meeting will be, "The martyrs of yesterday for the Latin American Carmel of today" and it will look at such figures as Oscar Romero, Tito Brandsma and Edith Stein.
The General Superior, Father Saverio Cannistrà, OCD, reported on some questions concerning  "Cor Orans" (the recent application instruction on female contemplative life, from the CIVCSVA ). An interesting dialogue and a wide-ranging exchange of ideas were generated around the subject.
Next, the latest information sent by Bro. Fausto Spinelli, OCD, president of the joint international commission, on the steps that are being taken with the municipality of Haifa and the corresponding government authorities of Israel for the restoration and maintenance of the ruins of the first Carmelite monastery in the Wadi es-Siah on Mount Carmel, were shared.
Finally, the two councils exchanged various items of information regarding upcoming events in both orders. The meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of great fraternity and joy, ended with the community meal.

Encuentro semestral de los Consejos O.Carm. y OCD
El pasado día 1 de junio tuvo lugar en nuestra Curia en Roma la reunión semestral entre el Consejo General y el de nuestros hermanos descalzos. Tras el rezo de la Tercia, el Prior General, P. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., dio la bienvenida a los miembros del Consejo general OCD y presentó el programa de este encuentro que se viene celebrando de forma regular desde hace más de 25 años.
En primer lugar, se fijó el tema del encuentro trienal de ambos consejos que tendrá lugar en Dublín (Irlanda) del 27 al 31 de mayo de 2019 y que será: "El camino misionero del Carmelo de hoy". Asimismo, se creó una pequeña comisión formada por los padres John Keating, O.Carm. y Daniel Chowning, OCD., encargada de preparar el encuentro.
Ambos consejos fueron informados de los preparativos para la “Jornada Carmelita” que se celebrará el 28 de enero de 2019 en el marco de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud que tendrá lugar en Panamá. Para dicha jornada están colaborando tanto los Carmelitas descalzos de la Provincia de Centroamérica como los Carmelitas de El Salvador.
Asimismo, se presentó el programa para el V encuentro del ALACAR (Asociación Latinoamericana de Carmelitas) que tendrá lugar en Santo Domingo el próximo otoño. El tema de dicho encuentro será: "Los mártires de ayer para el Carmelo Latinoamericano de hoy" y se tratarán las figuras de Oscar Romero, Tito Brandsma y Edith Stein.
El Prepósito General, P. Saverio Cannistrà, OCD, informó sobre algunas cuestiones referentes a la “Cor Orans” (la reciente instrucción aplicativa de la CIVCSVA sobre la vida contemplativa femenina). Sobre el tema se suscitó un interesante diálogo y un amplio intercambio de ideas.
A continuación, se compartieron las últimas informaciones enviadas por Fray Fausto Spinelli, OCD, presidente de la comisión conjunta internacional sobre las gestiones que se están llevando a cabo ante la municipalidad de Haifa y las autoridades competentes del gobierno de Israel para la restauración y el mantenimiento de las ruinas del primer monasterio carmelita del Wadi es-Siah en el Monte Carmelo.
Por último, los dos consejos intercambiaron diversas informaciones referentes a próximos eventos de ambas órdenes. El encuentro, que se desarrolló en un ambiente de mucha fraternidad y alegría, terminó con la comida comunitaria.

Incontro semestrale dei Consigli Generali O.Carm. e OCD
Il 1 giugno scorso si è tenuta presso la nostra Curia, a Roma, la riunione semestrale del Consiglio Generale con quello dei nostri fratelli Scalzi. Dopo la recita dell'Ora Terza il Priore Generale, P. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., ha dato il benvenuto ai membri del Consiglio Generale OCD e ha presentato il programma dell'incontro che si celebra regolarmente da più di 25 anni.
In primo luogo si è fissato il tema dell'incontro triennale dei due Consigli, previsto a Dublino, in Irlanda, dal 27 al 31 maggio 2019, che sarà: "Il cammino missionario del Carmelo oggi". Al fine di preparare tale incontro è stata creata una piccola commissione composta dai padri John Keating, O.Carm. e Daniel Chowning, OCD.
I Consigli sono stati quindi informati sulla preparazione della "Giornata Carmelitana" che si celebrerà il 28 gennaio 2019 nel contesto della Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù, che avrà luogo a Panama. Per questa giornata stanno lavorando i Carmelitani Scalzi della Provincia del Centroamerica e i Carmelitani di El Salvador.
Si è presentato anche il programma del V incontro di ALACAR (Associazione dei Carmelitani dell’America Latina) che si svolgerà a Santo Domingo nel prossimo autunno. Il tema sarà: "I martiri di ieri per il Carmelo latinoamericano di oggi"; verranno trattate le figure di Oscar Romero, Tito Brandsma ed Edith Stein.
In seguito il Preposito Generale, P. Saverio Cannistrà, OCD, ha informato su alcune questioni riguardo la recente istruzione applicativa della CIVCSVA "Cor Orans" sulla vita contemplativa femminile. Questo tema ha suscitato un interessante dialogo e un ampio scambio di idee.
Successivamente sono state condivise le ultime informazioni inviate da Fra Fausto Spinelli, OCD, presidente della commissione congiunta internazionale, inerenti le questioni che sono state trattate con il comune di Haifa e le autorità competenti del governo d'Israele per il restauro e la manutenzione delle rovine del primo monastero carmelitano del Wadi es-Siah, sul monte Carmelo.
Infine i due Consigli hanno scambiato varie informazioni concernenti gli eventi imminenti di entrambi gli Ordini.
L'incontro, che si è svolto in un'atmosfera di grande fraternità e gioia, si è concluso con il pranzo comunitario.
