Activities of the Prior General
On the recent 12th of December, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm, along with various members of the Curia, visited the “Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas”, the director of which is Professor Donna Orsuto. Following the celebration of the Eucharist, the Prior General spoke about a Carmelite interpretation of Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si’.
On the 14th of December, he chaired the launching of the book by Fr. Carlo Cicconetti, “La Regola del Carmelo: origine, natura, significato”. (The Carmelite Rule: origin, nature and meaning). During the event, Fr. Silvano Giordano, OCD., a professor at the Teresianum and at the Gregorian in Rome, was asked to speak. He spoke about how the work of Cicconetti helps us to understand not only the Rule itself, but also the religious context of the time. Fr. Carlo thanked all who were present and gave an outline of the history of this recent magnum opus. At the end the Prior General suggested to all who were present that we get to know our origins better in order to live with creative fidelity in the present and look to our future with greater enthusiasm.
On the 22nd of December he led the celebration of the Mass of Thanksgiving for the 4th centenary of the Carmelite monastery in Villalba del Alcor (Huelva, Spain) He was accompanied by Fr. Francisco Daza, O.Carm., Prior Provincial of the Bética province, by various members of that province and several priests from the diocese of Huelva. Follow the Mass, there was a procession with the statue of Our Lady to the place where the former house of the Carmelite friars once stood (it disappeared in 1837). The Prior General was welcomed by the local authority. The mayor made a presentation to him as he thanked the Carmelite Order for the presence of the nuns throughout these four hundred years.
Lastly, on Sunday the 17th of February, just gone by, the Prior General took part in the 2019 Celebration of the Carmelite Family in Lazio, held at CISA. This year the theme, (in line with the topic of prophecy outlined in previous gatherings) was, "The Arrest of Titus Brandsma: between fake news and the defence of the truth". The speakers were the Prior General and the journalist, Francesco Antonio Grana. Both speakers analysed a number of questions having to do with the ethics of journalism in the present day, based on their knowledge of Blessed Titus.

Actividades del Prior General
El pasado día 12 de diciembre, el Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm, acompañado de varios miembros de la Curia, visitó el “Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas”, dirigido por la profesora Donna Orsuto. Tras celebrar la eucaristía, el Prior General habló sobre una lectura carmelita de la Encíclica Laudato Si’ del Papa Francisco.
El día 14 de diciembre presidió la presentación del libro del P. Carlo Cicconetti “La Regola del Carmelo: origine, natura, significato”. En dicho acto intervino el P. Silvano Giordano, OCD., profesor Del Teresianum y De la P.U. Gregoriana de Roma quien destacó cómo la obra de Cicconetti ayuda entender no sólo la Regla carmelita sino también el contexto religioso de la época. El P. Carlo agradeció a todos su presencia y trazó la historia de esta segunda edición de su obra magna. Por último, el Prior General invitó a los presentes a conocer mejor nuestros orígenes para poder vivir con fidelidad creativa nuestro presente y afrontar con entusiasmo nuestro futuro.
El día 22 de diciembre presidió la solemne eucaristía de acción de gracias por los 400 años del Monasterio Carmelita de Villalba del Alcor (Huelva, España). Estuvo acompañado por el P. Francisco Daza, O.Carm., Provincial de la Bética, por varios religiosos de dicha provincia, así como por varios sacerdotes de la diócesis de Huelva. Tras la misa, tuvo lugar una procesión con la imagen de la Virgen hasta el lugar donde estaba el antiguo convento de los frailes carmelitas (desaparecido en 1837). El Prior General fue recibido en el ayuntamiento donde recibió un obsequio por parte del señor alcalde quien agradeció al Carmelo la presencia de nuestras monjas en estos cuatro siglos.
Por último, el domingo 17 de febrero participó en el CISA en la Fiesta de la Familia Carmelita del Lazio. Este año, el tema central de la misma (en sintonía con el tema del profetismo que se ha desarrollado en reuniones precedentes) fue: “El arresto de Tito Brandsma entre las ‘fake news’ y la defensa de la verdad”. Fueron los ponentes el Prior General y el periodista Francesco Antonio Grana quienes analizaron desde el testimonio del beato Tito algunas cuestiones de ética periodística en la actualidad.

Attività del Priore Generale
Lo scorso 12 dicembre il Priore Generale, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., accompagnato da vari membri della Curia, ha visitato il “Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas”, diretto dalla Prof.ssa Donna Orsuto. Dopo la celebrazione eucaristica, il Priore Generale ha presentato una lettura carmelitana della Enciclica Laudato Sì di Papa Francesco.
Il 14 dicembre ha presieduto la presentazione del libro di P. Carlo Cicconetti "La Regola del Carmelo: origine, natura, significato". Al tale atto è intervenuto P. Silvano Giordano, OCD, professore presso il Teresianum e la Pontificia Università Gregoriana di Roma, il quale ha evidenziato come l'opera di P. Cicconetti faciliti la comprensione non solo della Regola del Carmelo, ma anche del contesto religioso dell'epoca. P. Carlo ha ringraziato i presenti e ha illustrato la storia di questa seconda edizione della sua opera. Infine il Priore Generale ha invitato gli astanti a conoscere meglio le nostre origini per poter vivere con fedeltà creativa il nostro presente e affrontare con entusiasmo il nostro futuro.

Dopo la messa, si è svolta una processione con l'immagine della Vergine fino al luogo in cui si trovava l'antico convento dei frati carmelitani (scomparso nel 1837). Il Priore Generale è stato accolto nel municipio, dove ha ricevuto un dono da parte del sindaco, che ha ringraziato il Carmelo per la presenza delle nostre monache in questi quattro secoli.
Infine, il 17 febbraio, ha partecipato alla festa della Famiglia Carmelitana del Lazio, che ha trattato (in linea con il tema della profezia che si è approfondito negli incontri precedenti) il seguente argomento: "L’arresto di Tito Brandsma tra “Fake News” e la difesa della verità". I relatori sono stati il Priore Generale e il giornalista Francesco Antonio Grana, il quale, partendo dalla testimonianza del beato Tito, ha analizzato alcune questioni attuali di etica giornalistica.
