Meeting of the O.Carm. and O.C.D. General Councils in Dublin
A meeting of the O.Carm. and O.C.D. General Councils took place in the Carmelite house of "Gort Muire" in Dublin, Ireland from the 27th to the 31st May, 2019. With the help of Fr. Gerry O’Hanlon S.J., a theologian at the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice, these days were dedicated to a reflection on the mission of the Church and on aspects of religious life on mission. At the beginning of the meeting, the councillors of the various geographical areas spoke about what is happening in their respective areas, above all from the point of view of their history and their mission. These presentations gave rise to a rich exchange of experiences and ideas. During the meeting, there was also space for sharing on other topics that are of interest to both Orders.
On the evening of the 28th of May, Vespers were celebrated with the community, the councils of the two provinces in Ireland, the friars of both Orders and some nuns of the Carmelite monasteries around Dublin; the prayer was followed by a fraternal reception. On the 29th of May, the group travelled to the central area of Ireland to visit the archaeological site of the ancient monastery of Clonmacnoise, which was founded in 545, to later become one of the great missionary centres of the early Irish monks.
The last day was taken up with the preparation of a message for the two Orders, which will be sent out in various languages. When that was done, the director of studies of the "Carmelite Institute of Britain and Ireland" (CIBI), Patrick Mullins O.Carm., presented the Institute’s programme of distance learning. In the afternoon, the two Councils visited, the "Book of Kells", an illuminated manuscript written by Irish monks around 800, on display in Trinity College, and two Carmelite communities in Dublin: Whitefriars Street (O.Carm.) and Clarendon Street ( O.C.D.). The day ended with an evening of Irish culture.
At the end of the meeting, the Prior General, on behalf of our entire Council, underlined the importance of these fraternal meetings and thanked Fr. Saverio Cannistrà and his Council for the excellent collaboration experienced over the past six years . We cordially thank the community of the friars of Gort Muire, especially the Provincial, Fr. Richard Byrne and the Prior, Fr. Martin Kilmurray, for the warm and fraternal hospitality with which they welcomed the two General Councils.

Encuentro de los Consejos Generales O.Carm. y OCD en Dublín
Los días del 27 al 31 de mayo de 2019 tuvo lugar el encuentro de los Consejos Generales O.Carm. y OCD en el convento “Gort Muire” de Dublín, Irlanda. Con la ayuda del P. Gerry O’Hanlon SJ, teólogo del centro de los Jesuitas para la fe y la justicia, se dedicaron estos días a reflexionar sobre la misión de la Iglesia y sobre los aspectos de una vida religiosa en misión. Por ello, ya al inicio del encuentro los consejeros de las diferentes áreas geográficas presentaron las respectivas realidades, sobre todo desde el punto de vista de su historia y misión. Estas informaciones inspiraron un rico intercambio de experiencias y de ideas. Además, durante el encuentro se dedicó bastante tiempo a compartir temas diversos que afectan a ambas Órdenes.
En la tarde del día 28 de mayo se celebraron las vísperas conjuntamente con con la comunidad, con los consejos de las dos Provincias de Irlanda, con hermanos de ambas Órdenes y con algunas monjas de los monasterios carmelitanos del entorno de Dublín; a la oración siguió una acogida fraterna. El 29 de mayo el grupo se trasladó a la zona central de Irlanda para visitar el lugar arqueológico del antiguo monasterio de Clonmacnoise, fundado el 545 y convertido después en uno de los grandes centro misioneros de los primeros monjes irlandeses. Finalmente, el último día se dedicó a la elaboración de un mensaje para ambas Órdenes, que se enviará en varias lenguas. A continuación, el director de los estudios del “Carmelite Institute of Britain and Ireland”, Patrick Mullins O.Carm., presentó el programa de estudios que se realizarán a distancia. Por la tarde, los dos Consejos visitaron el “Libro di Kells”, un manuscrito ilustrado realizado por monjes irlandeses en torno al 800, el Trinity College y las dos comunidades carmelitanas de Dublín: Whitefriars Street (O.Carm.) y Clarendon Street (OCD).La jornada concluyó con una velada cultural irlandesa.
Al finalizar el encuentro, el Prior General, en nombre de nuestro Consejo, subrayó la importancia de estos encuentros fraternos y dio las gracias al P. Saverio Cannistrà y a su Consejo por el ambiente óptimo de colaboración vivido en los últimos seis años.

Incontro dei Consigli Generali O.Carm. e OCD a Dublino
Dal 27 al 31 maggio 2019 si è tenuto, nel convento di “Gort Muire” a Dublino, in Irlanda, l'incontro dei Consigli Generali O.Carm. e OCD. Con l’aiuto di P. Gerry O’Hanlon SJ, teologo presso il centro dei Gesuiti per la fede e la giustizia, questi giorni sono stati dedicati alla riflessione sulla missione della chiesa e sugli aspetti di una vita religiosa in missione. Perciò, già all’inizio dell’incontro, i consiglieri delle varie zone geografiche hanno presentato le rispettive realtà, soprattutto dal punto di vista della loro storia e della loro missione. Queste presentazioni hanno ispirato un ricco scambio di esperienze ed idee. Inoltre, durante l’incontro, è stato lasciato abbastanza spazio alla condivisione su diversi temi che toccano entrambi gli Ordini.
La sera del 28 maggio si sono celebrati i vespri insieme alla comunità, ai consigli delle due Province in Irlanda, ai frati di entrambi gli Ordini e ad alcune monache dei monasteri carmelitani intorno a Dublino; alla preghiera ha fatto seguito un ricevimento fraterno. Il 29 maggio il gruppo si è recato nella zona centrale dell’Irlanda per visitare il sito archeologico dell'antico monastero di Clonmacnoise, che fu fondato nel 545 per diventare poi uno dei grandi centri missionari dei primi monaci irlandesi. Infine, l’ultimo giorno è stato dedicato alla preparazione di un messaggio per i due Ordini, che sarà inviato nelle varie lingue. Successivamente il direttore degli studi del "Carmelite Institute of Britain and Ireland" (CIBI), Patrick Mullins O.Carm., ha presentato il programma degli studi che si svolgono a distanza. Il pomeriggio, i due Consigli hanno visitato il “Libro di Kells”, un manoscritto miniato realizzato dai monaci irlandesi intorno all’800, il Trinity College e le due comunità carmelitane a Dublino: Whitefriars Street (O.Carm.) e Clarendon Street (OCD). La giornata si è conclusa con una serata culturale irlandese.
Al termine dell’incontro, il Priore Generale, a nome di tutto il nostro Consiglio, ha sottolineato l’importanza di questi incontri fraterni e ha ringraziato P. Saverio Cannistrà e il suo Consiglio per l’ottimo ambiente di collaborazione vissuto negli ultimi sei anni.
Ringraziamo cordialmente la comunità dei frati di Gort Muire, specialmente il Provinciale P. Richard Byrne e il Priore P. Martin Kilmurray, per la fraterna e cordiale ospitalità con cui hanno accolto i due Consigli Generali.
