Feast of St. Teresa of Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church -- October 15

On October 15th we celebrate the feast of St. Therea of Jesus (or of Avila). Saint Teresa is among the most important figures of all time for Catholic spirituality. Her works-- especially the four best known (The Life, The Way of Perfection, The Interior Castle and The Foundations)-- together with her more historical works, contain a doctrine which encompasses the whole of the spiritual life, from the first steps right up to intimacy with God at the center of the Interior Castle. Her Letters show her occupied with a great variety of everyday problems. Her doctrine on the unity of the soul with God follows the Carmelite tradition which had preceded her and to which she herself contributed in such a notable way, enriching it as well as passing the tradition on, not only to her spiritual sons and daughters, but also to the whole Church which she served so unsparingly.

Fiesta de S. Teresa de Jesús, Virgen y Doctora de la Iglesia -- 15 de octubre

El 15 de octubre celebramos la fiesta de S. Teresa de Jesús (o de Ávila). Teresa está entre las figuras más relevantes de la mística católica de todos los tiempos. Sus obras - especialmente las cuatro más conocidas (Vida, Camino de Perfección, Moradas y Fundaciones) - junto a sus escritos de carácter histórico, contienen una doctrina que abraza todas las facetas de la vida espiritual, desde los primeros pasos hasta la intimidad con Dios en el centro del Castillo Interior. Su cartas, además, nos la muestran absorbida por los problemas más variados de cada día. Su doctrina sobre la unión del alma con Dios (doctrina vivida por ella íntimamente) sigue la línea trazada por la doctrina del Carmelo que la precedía y que ella contribuyó de manera notable a enriquecer, y que transmitió no sólo a los hermanos, hijos e hijas espirituales, sino a toda la Iglesia, a la que sirvió sin escatimar esfuerzos.

Festa di S. Teresa di Gesù, Vergine e Dottore della Chiesa -- 15 ottobre

Il 15 ottobre celebriamo la festa di S. Teresa di Gesù (o d’Avila). Teresa è tra le figure più importanti della mistica cattolica di tutti i tempi. Le sue opere - specialmente le quattro più note (Vita, Cammino di perfezione, Il castello interiore e Fondazioni) - insieme ai suoi scritti storici, contengono una dottrina che abbraccia tutte le dimensioni della vita spirituale, dai primi passi all'intimità con Dio nel centro del castello interiore. Le sue lettere, inoltre, la mostrano assorta nei più svariati problemi della vita quotidiana. La sua dottrina sull'unione dell'anima con Dio (dottrina che ha vissuto intimamente) segue la linea tracciata dalla dottrina del Carmelo che l'ha preceduta e che ha contribuito in modo notevole ad arricchire, e che ha trasmesso non solo ai suoi fratelli, figli e figlie spirituali, ma a tutta la Chiesa, che ha servito instancabilmente.
