Blessed Candelaria of St. Joseph, virgin

Blessed Candelaria was born Susanna Paz-Castillo Ramírez, in Altagracia de Orituco, Venezuela, on August 11, 1863.

Her life was spent among the poor; she was distinguished by a profound humility, an unfailing charity towards them, and a profound faith life, prayer and love for the Church. In addition to her careful attention to the sick, she was concerned about the education of children, a task she left as a legacy to the Carmelite sisters.

She founded a new religious congregation, dedicated to serving the poor, which was definitively established in 1910 with the name "Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor of Altagracia de Orituco." Afterward, the congregation was affiliated to the Carmelite Order, and was called the Third Order of Regular Carmelites. Today they are known as the Venezuelan Carmelite Sisters or Carmelites of Mother Candelaria.

The beatification of Mother Candelaria of St. Joseph took place on April 27, 2008, in Caracas, Venezuela.

La beata Candelaria nació con el nombre Susanna Paz-Castillo Ramírez, en Altagracia de Orituco, Venezuela, el 11 de agosto de 1863.

Su vida transcurrió entre los pobres; se distinguió por una profunda humildad, una inagotable caridad con ellos, y una profunda vida de fe, oración y amor a la Iglesia. Además de su esmerada atención por los enfermos, se preocupó por la educación de los niños, tarea que dejó como legado a sus hermanas carmelitas.

Ella fundó una nueva Congregación religiosa, dedicada al servicio de los pobres, la cual se constituyó definitivamente el 31 de diciembre de 1910 con el nombre de «Congregación de las Hermanitas de los Pobres de Altagracia de Orituco». Posteriormente la Congregación se agregó a la Orden del Carmelo, y fueron denominadas Terciarias Carmelitas Regulares. Hoy son conocidas como Hermanas Carmelitas Venezolanas o Carmelitas de la Madre Candelaria.

La beatificación de la Madre Candelaria de San José tuvo lugar el día 27 de abril de 2008 en Caracas, Venezuela.

Beata Candelaria di San Giuseppe, vergine

B. Candelaria, al secolo Susanna Paz-Castillo Ramírez, è nata ad Altagracia de Orituco in Venezuela, l'11 agosto 1863.

Trascorse la sua vita tra i poveri; si distinse per una profonda umiltà, una carità inesauribile nei loro confronti e una profonda vita di fede, preghiera e amore per la Chiesa. Oltre alla sua attenta cura dei malati, si preoccupava dell'educazione dei bambini, compito che lasciò in eredità alle sue sorelle carmelitane.

Fondò una Congregazioni femminile dedicata al servizio dei poveri, che si costituì definitivamente il 31 dicembre 1910 con il nome “Congregazione delle Piccole Sorelle dei Poveri di Altagracia de Orituco”. In seguito la Congregazione si affiliò all'Ordine Carmelitano, e furono chiamate Terziarie Carmelitane Regolari. Oggi sono conosciute come Suore Carmelitane Venezuelane o Carmelitane di Madre Candelaria.

La beatificazione di Madre Candelaria de San José si è svolta il 27 aprile 2008 a Caracas, Venezuela.
