Celebrating at Home: A Work in Progress 32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time In this episode from Luke’s Gospel, it is the Sadducees, rather than the Pharisees, who confront Jesus. Like the Pharisees, the Sadducees were a Jewish sect. They rejected much of what the Pharisees believed in, including the possibility of life after death. The rather ridiculous scenario they put to Jesus in today’s Gospel was meant to show how ridiculous belief in resurrection was. Read more ....

Al igual que los fariseos, los saduceos eran una secta judía. Celebrando in Casa: Un'opera in divenire 32 Domenica del Tempo Ordinario In questo episodio del Vangelo di Luca, sono i Sadducei, anziché i Farisei, ad affrontare Gesù. Come i Farisei, anche i Sadducei erano una setta ebraica. Rifiutavano molte delle cose in cui credevano i Farisei, compresa la possibilità di una vita dopo la morte. Lo scenario piuttosto grottesco che propongono a Gesù nel Vangelo di oggi aveva lo scopo di mostrare quanto fosse ridicola la credenza nella risurrezione.

Eles rejeitaram muito do que os fariseus acreditavam, incluindo a possibilidade de vida após a morte.
