Celebrating at Home: If Christ is the Light, Who Are We?
The Presentation of the Lord
Today’s Gospel tells us the story of the presentation of Jesus in the Temple. During the presentation, two holy people, Simeon and Anna, witness to Jesus as the “light of the nations”. So, it is the Church’s custom to celebrate this feast with the blessing and lighting of candles - a reference to the Christmas theme of light.
The candles can serve as a reminder that Christ, our Light, is always present with us.

La Presentación del Senor
El Evangelio de hoy nos narra la presentación de Jesús en el Templo. Durante la presentación, dos personas santas, Simeón y Ana, dan testimonio de Jesús como «luz de las naciones». Por eso, la Iglesia acostumbra a celebrar esta fiesta con la bendición y el encendido de velas, una referencia al tema navideño de la luz.
Las velas pueden servir como recordatorio de que Cristo, nuestra Luz, está siempre presente con nosotros.

Festa della Presentazione del Signore
Il Vangelo di oggi ci racconta la storia della presentazione di Gesù al Tempio. Durante la presentazione, due persone sante, Simeone e Anna, testimoniano che Gesù è la “luce delle nazioni”. È quindi consuetudine della Chiesa celebrare questa festa con la benedizione e l'accensione di candele - un riferimento al tema natalizio della luce.
Le candele servono a ricordarci che Cristo, nostra Luce, è sempre presente con noi.

O Evangelho de hoje nos fala da apresentação de Jesus no Templo. Durante a apresentação, Duas pessoas santas, Simeão e Ana, dão testemunho de Jesus como “luz das nações”. Por isso, a Igreja costuma celebrar esta festa com a bênção e acendimento de velas, uma referência ao tema natalino da luz.
As velas podem servir como um lembrete de que Cristo, nossa Luz, está sempre presente conosco.
