Saint George Preca, Priest

Born in Malta on 12 February 1880. He lived in Valletta, the capital of Malta, near the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. As a child, and according to the customs of the times, George joined the Carmelite Family by being enrolled in the Scapular. 

Fr. George was not satisfied with a minimal Christian life. As a child he wore the scapular and in later years wanted to commit himself more intensely to following the example of Our Lady and thus became a Carmelite Tertiary. He joined the Third Order on 21 July 1918 and made his profession on 26 September of the following year. At his profession he took the name of "Franco", after the Carmelite Blessed Franco of Siena. Fr. George chose the name of this Blessed because he considered himself a great sinner… a characteristic of many saints. 

Fr. George Preca is a saint of our times, not because of any extraordinary events recorded during his life, but above all because of the living monument that he left behind in the Society of the MUSEUM, today spread to Europe, Oceania, Africa and Latin America.

S. Jorge Preca, Sacerdote

Nació en Malta el 12 de febrero de 1880. Vivió en Valetta, ciudad capital de Malta, a pocos pasos del Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen. De niño, según la usanza del tiempo, Jorge fue incorporado a la Familia Carmelita con la imposición del Santo Escapulario. 

En su vida cristiana Don Jorge no se contentaba con lo poco. De grande quería empeñarse más y más en el seguimiento a María, llegando a ser Terciario Carmelita. Se inscribió el 21 de julio de 1918 y profesó el 26 de septiembre del siguiente año. En su profesión escogió el nombre de "Franco", como el beato carmelita Franco de Sena. Don Jorge escogió el nombre de este beato porque se tenía él mismo como un gran pecador… una característica de muchos santos.

Don Jorge Preca es el santo de nuestros tiempos, no tanto por los hechos extraordinarios que se recuerdan de su vida, sino sobre todo por su monumento vivo que es la Sociedad del MUSEUM, que trabaja hoy en Europa, Oceanía, África y América Latina.

Nacque a Malta il 12 febbraio 1880. Viveva a Valletta, città capitale di Malta, a pochi passi dal Santuario della Madonna del Carmine. Da bambino, secondo l'usanza del tempo, Giorgio venne incorporato nella Famiglia Carmelitana con l'imposizione dello Scapolare. 

Nella sua vita cristiana Don Giorgio non si accontentava del minimo. Da grande voleva impegnarsi di più alla sequela della Vergine Maria, diventando un Terziario Carmelitano. Si iscrisse il 21 luglio 1918 e professò il 26 settembre dell'anno successivo. Alla sua professione scelse il nome di "Franco", come il Beato carmelitano Franco di Siena. Don Giorgio ha scelto il nome di questo beato perché riteneva se stesso un grande peccatore ... una caratteristica di molti santi. 

Don Giorgio Preca è il santo dei nostri tempi, non tanto per i fatti straordinari che si ricordano della sua vita, ma soprattutto per il suo monumento vivo che è la Società del MUSEUM, oggi operante anche in Europa, Oceania, Africa e America Latina.
