Activities of the Prior General From the 22nd to the 24th of November, the Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., took part in the 4th Symposium in the series, “Textos para un Milenio” (Texts for a Millennium) that was held in the parish in Ayala, Madrid. The theme was, Dignity and Resistance, Testimonies, Reflections and Commitment to the Victims. Help for the Philippines Three weeks ago we sent out information on Task Force Carmel Cares, in response to Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines. General Council begins Meetings The General Council began a series of plenary meetings on 12th November, and apart from the ordinary administrative business of the order, the Council is studying a restructuring of the General Commissions, as recommended by the General Chapter. The Council hopes to finish the new structuring of the commissions by Christmas so that they can begin work in the new year. Assembly of the USG and a Meeting with Pope Francis On the 27th and 28th of November, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., took part in the 82nd Assembly of the Union of Superiors General, held in Rome. Some 120 Generals of orders and congregations attended. The theme chosen for this assembly was, Pope Francis: The Challenge of Gospel Leadership. Preparations for the Centenary of St. Teresa We have been informed in the Curia of a number of significant events taking place throughout the Carmelite world in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus.
